Google Pixel 8 Pro | Best Camera & AI-Powered Android Phone Google Pixel 8 Pro

hi everyone here for and this is the Google pixel 8 Pro Google was nice enough to send this along and I do get to keep the phone just for full disclosure but I wanted to share the unboxing like I have with pretty much every pixel ever made now this is the Google pixel 8 Pro in this non- retail packaging which looks really nice which says Google pixel collection now this starts at $9.99 this year goes up to 1,399 and has four storage options 128 256 512 and 1 tbte let's go ahead and open this up so it's a nice plastic packaging here you'll see it just fits in there nicely and again it says Google pixel collection let's set that aside and we have three colors this year Bay obsidian and

Porcelain I wasn't able to choose the color but I think they probably sent the one I wanted so we just have this nice packaging here that says the only phone engineered by Google so really nice presentation we have this little card on the back it has some concierge information some numbers to call for press things like that and another one here as well so they just say eight on them and that's it and as you can see they've sent along the Google pixel watch too as well so we have this new color Bay there's also obsidian which is more what we have on the pixel 7 Pro here and a porcelain color as well let's go ahead and remove this we'll set it aside and also we have the pixel watch as well in the same color so let me take this little wrapper off here and I don't think there's anything else inside this so let me see if there's anything else in here it doesn't seem like that comes out so that's everything nothing else on the back so let's set that aside now this blue color I really like and to compare it with what we have this year from Apple we

actually have the two blue iPhones so we've got sort of they're very light blue and then they're darker or titanium blue on their Pro phone so that's the difference there it's somewhere in between that shade so I think it looks pretty good most people I've seen say that they really like it some don't but let's go ahead and remove the covering here there we are and let's take a look around the outside of the phone now this is made of aluminum this year around the outside edge according to Google and on the back we have glass but this is really nice it's a matte glass instead of what we had with previous years where it's sort of just a glossy glass gets really finger printy I love that they're putting matte finishes on things now but we do have a polished edge here that's got sort of a blue tint to it of course on the front of the phone we have a flat display this year so really nice design here and if we go around the phone you'll see on the right we have our power sleep wake button we have our volume rocker then on the top it looks like we've got a little microphone we've got our millimeter wave antenna on the other side then on the left hand side
we've got our SIM card tray and nothing else let's go ahead and pop that out you'll see there's no expandable storage just the SIM card tray itself and of course you can place your sim card in that we'll swap that a little bit later and then of course we have our cameras on the back we have a temperature sensor and a flash we'll take a closer look at that in a little bit and that's about it now internally we do have Google's new tensor G3 processor with the Titan M2 which now allows for Face Unlock and app sign-ins and also 12 GB of lpddr 5x Ram so that's really nice that we have that we also have Gorilla Glass victus on the front and the overall weight of the phone is not very heavy compared to maybe the pixel 7 Pro they feel very similar overall so it's 2.13 G or 7.15 o as far as the overall size let's compare those and you'll see it's almost identical this year so size-wise it looks very similar in fact I thought it might be a little bit different this year and also of course I didn't mention earlier we have USBC on the bottom along with our speaker and microphone but basically everything is the same here so not really much of a difference and let's check that with the case actually so here's my Google pixel 7 Pro case and you'll see it actually fits pretty well so that gives you a good size comparison but in the corners it's slightly different as the radius is different there

but everything else seems to fit the same I wouldn't trust it to this as it feels like it's going to fall out but even the visor on the back with the cameras is very similar so let me remove that but that should give you an idea of overall size if you're trying to see one of these now if we flip it over here let's go ahead and turn it on give it just a second here now this is a new display that they're actually calling an actual display it's 6.7 in 1344 by 2992 with 489 pixels per inch it's 120 Herz 1600 nits HDR and 2400 nits Peak brightness I don't know that I've used a phone that bright before so we'll have to see what that looks like outside but we'll wait for it to boot up here and what I'll probably do is transfer my information from the pixel fold so it says welcome to your pixel get started and the haptics already actually feel significantly different they're a bit stronger as this is bouncing I can feel it bounce let's go ahead and get started and it says set up using another device pixel or Android device or iPhone or iPad we'll use pixel or Android and you'll see right away as I bring it nearby it says set up pixel 8 Pro we'll tap set up it says connecting we'll give it just a moment here and it says scan the QR code so we'll do that that's actually very similar to what we had with apple before and I really like that it makes things very simple although it seems to be moving much faster with the pixel so it says getting your phone ready this may take a few minutes we'll give it a moment here it says checking Network info and then it says checking info I'll probably swap my SIM card here in a moment as I use Google f with it now it says verify it's you I need to put in my PIN for my Google account and now it says connect to a

mobile network it's actually telling me to download an eim or insert a SIM card now so let me go ahead and do that I'll remove it from the pixel fold for now we'll put our SIM card in and I still prefer the physical SIM card even though we have the option for an eim so there we'll slide it into place it says connect to mobile network we'll wait for it to connect there we go now it wants me to set up a fingerprint unlock so we'll tap more tap I agree then we'll set that up so we'll go ahead and tap start and then press and hold so it's an under the display fingerprint sensor as you can see here and we'll set it up just like like any other pixel device or under the display fingerprint sensor this actually moves around a little bit as I was touching I could see it move behind me we'll give it a second here to set up and there we are and says fingerprint added we could add another later or do it now and it also says set up face unlock so let's go ahead and do that we'll tap more I agree and it says how to set it up so we'll tap start and you'll see me in this display there look down and that's it that was nice and fast and then it says copy data from your Android device that's exactly what I want to do so we'll tap next it connects immediately with the pixel fold and it says getting ready to copy this is pretty smooth and straightforward so far and I also am running Android 14 on the pixel fold just so you know that's what the current setup is like and now it says choose what to copy 7.8 gbt of 88 GB also I don't know what size this pixel is we'll have to check that after but we'll go ahead and copy everything we might as well and it says copying your data now we have to agree to use Google services we'll tap accept and now it's talking about limited warranty it says to view your limited warranty select the country where you bought the device so we can view that you'll see here in the United States that's the warranty once you agree to the legal terms we can go ahead and continue setup it says get things done handsfree with assistant so we can use the assistant or not use it we'll tap I agree and it says activate voice match to use Google with the word hey in front of it so we'll tap more

we'll tap I agree it probably recognizes it already again says check out fast with your phone and we'll skip that for now where we can use Google pay and then it says anything else and we'll say no thanks saying stay up to date and one thing we get is s years of updates with this we have to see 7 years from now if they're still honoring that but we should get pixel updates security updates as well as feature drops we'll tap yes I'm in for this as well and it says copying data says keep devices on and close to each other now it says the copying is done so we're good to go so we'll tap done says getting your phone ready this may take a few minutes so once it's copied we're done on the pixel fold we'll set that aside and wait for this to get ready now it's completed it says swipe to navigate try it so we'll tap try it swipe from the bottom then it's going to show you how to navigate the phone so go back and again switch apps so you go up like this and we'll tap done says all set your devic is ready to start using so we'll swipe up to go home and it even copied over the wallpaper from the other one now let's take a look at this screen brightness as it's supposed to be incredibly bright we'll turn it way up and that's unbelievably bright so that looks great let's go ahead and see what version we're on so we'll go into our settings and let's go down to system so within system it actually does show that I have an update available so we do have one available at 195 megabytes let's see which one we already have in here and you'll see that we do have the Android 14 update but for September so we'll need to update this to the latest build as that's what we typically have with the latest phones now while we wait for the system update to install I did want to mention that the back of the phone is a bit warm it did just transfer all of the data over it's installing a system update it's installing app updates so I expect it to be a bit warm processing that especially once you initially transfer everything but we don't know how it will compare with the tensor G2 if it will run hot all of the time or if the tensor G3 is much more efficient and we also don't know about battery life but we do know we have 5,50 milliamps hours of battery which will charge to about 50% in 30 minutes according to Google with a 30 W fast charger now I always use these Chargers from ankor and this is our Channel partner so I'll link them in the description if you're looking for maybe a different charger this is a 100 watt charger in this little compact package here so be sure to check them out this video is not sponsored by them but I did want to mention some of them if you're looking for a charger I use them all the time they're Compact and I just throw them in the bag and I'm ready to go now as far as the overall software let's go ahead and take a look at some of that since while we don't need the update to check this out let's take a look at the wallpapers now wallpaper this year has generative AI wallpaper so as you'll see if we go to more wallpaper we have ai wallpaper so we can pick from things such as luminous painting we have let's go back in we have soft focus volcanic let's go to night here and you'll see it says tap a word for ideas and inspiration so we'll tap on Indigo maybe we want it to be blue instead of the beach maybe we want mountain with clouds and then we'll tap create wallpaper and we'll wait for it to create that wallpaper and see what it does abstract blue mountain with clouds so it's taking a moment and we can swipe through different ones it's generated so this one looks pretty good so we could use that and then just set it as our wallpaper so it's pretty amazing that's built in you basically have endless possibilities here if we go back to more wallpaper again AI wallpaper we can go to imaginary and a surreal castle made of silk in shapes of coral or shades of coral in tan maybe we'll change that to Blue and indigo create wallpaper and it just creates it so we'll give it just a moment to create and see what it looks like and there we go so if you want to create whatever you're thinking of you can create that and set it as your wallpaper I think that's pretty incredible now as we wait for this system update still to install I wanted to mention that this does have ip68 dust and water resistance and also Wi-Fi 7 802 . 11be so that's something I haven't really seen in a smartphone just yet it also has Bluetooth version 5.3 with dual antennas and an ultra wideband chip so it's got all of the latest technology in it we'll wait for this to update then we'll take a closer look at the cameras the updates installed and we're ready to go the phone is nice and cool now that it's installed the update and everything's done processing now one of the new features is a temperature sensor we actually have an app for that so if we scroll down here you'll see thermometer if we go in it says allow access to sensor we'll allow it and it says object temperature so we can measure an object and tap continue then it says select a material preset so maybe we'll select well we've had some issues with the iPhone's overheating let's see what it's doing now it's nice and cool but let's at least try and measure it so we'll tap next it says result accuracy ranges for best results measure within 5 cm or 2 in and we'll tap to measure so we've got here let's try again tap to measure it says 78.4 de F so let's go to default and then we can pick different things so cast iron ceramic and glass let's tap on glass see what we've got tap to measure says 79.5 so gives you an idea how it works nice and fast as you would expect and pretty simple and straightforward here's the pixel fold it's been on tap to measure let's try and measure my arm here see if it makes a difference says fabric walls and windows we'll just put it on default for now and again right next to my arm here says 89.4 de fah so nice and

fast measures the temperature and I don't know how accurate it is but that's really nice to have available just to use it if you need it now as far as pwm or pulse withth modulation for the display and how it controls brightness let's take a look at that pixel displays typically don't bother my eyes but depending on how they control brightness they can Flash the display faster and slower you can't see this with your eyes but at 240 frames per second you can so let's take a look and at40 frames per second you can see that the screen is actually flashing or flickering you can't see this with your eyes but it can cause some people to actually feel nauseated or have eye strain it doesn't happen for most people about one and 10 are affected by this but it seems to actually have it so it may bother your eyes now we have some upgrades this year when it comes to the cameras that's one of pixel strong suits and and the forward-facing camera gets an upgrade this year as well it has a 10.5 megapixel camera f2.2 aperture with autofocus we also have some updates to the rear cameras we'll take a look at that in just a moment but with the forward-facing camera if we go into video and let's check our different settings you'll see we have 4K 60 if we're in 4k 30 we have HDR options and let's see what the actual camera is like this is the forward-facing camera from the pixel 8 Pro with autofocus this should hopefully be a lot better than before that was one of the biggest complaints I had was lack of autofocus but it looks pretty good overall let me know what you think of it as far as the way it sounds and the way it looks and so that's the front-facing camera and now when it comes to the rear cameras we have three different cameras of course with those new sensors and it looks a little different this time we have a 50 megapixel wide camera F 1.68 aperture we have a 48 megapixel quad ultrawide camera with autofocus at F 1.95 we also have a 48 megap pixel quad telephoto camera at f2.8 we have 4K 60 recording as far as that goes we also have night sight for video so if we go into our video camera we have video options here and you'll see time lapse and everything else we're used to if we go into our settings of course you've got all of your resolution settings and you have 10bit HDR now one thing that's coming in the future is a new feature called video boost where the video is sent to the cloud it gets color grading and enhanced and we'll have to wait and see what that actually looks like but at least we have some of these updates we also have a new option that limits some of the sound in the background I'll have to try that with audio Magic Eraser that's something we can check out in the future maybe with a comparison and we have all of these really nice features where we have a new feature called best take where you can actually swap out faces in a group photo so that's something again that's a software update coming a little bit later now as far as the photo settings if we go into our settings you'll see we have a new Pro section so on the 8 Pro phone we have an option for resolution we can go in and switch that to 50 megapixels we can switch to raw or jpeg you'll see there we also have lens selection so we can switch to manual and then we have some more settings here as well where we can fully customize this there's thirdparty apps but it's great to see this built right in where we can get the best possible quality here so if we snap a picture of the pixel watch there it's pretty simple and straightforward but an even better camera and again I'll have to take some photos see what it's like as far as a comparison maybe with the iPhone 15 Pro Max let me know if you'd like to see that in the comments below let me turn on the pixel Watch 2 we'll boot this up give it just a second here and wait for it to turn on there we go it comes in at 3.49 goes up to 3.99 if you have 4G and LTE and it's booting up now now this time around it's a little bit different as far as its overall weight it's 10% lighter this year it's also made of aluminum as as you can see here and we have some new sensors as well the crown is more flush with the screen so that it doesn't bump into things and this gives you an idea of what it looks like overall very similar to what we had before but a bunch of different upgrades especially supposedly battery life so we have much better battery life up to 24 hours and 50% charge in 30 minutes with fast charging so some upgrades there a new quad core CPU should help with the efficiency as well and overall speed it's covered in Corning Gorilla Glass 5 and as far as the new sensors specifically what we have is a new heart rate sensor for better accuracy we also have continuous electrodermal activity sensors or a sensor which helps to pinpoint signs of stress using a machine learning algorithms and it incorporates other sensors as well we also have a skin temperature sensor and that should help with sleep monitoring and more it says on your phone download and open Google pixel watch I think I already have that so let's go into it I already had the app let's go ahead and pair this we'll tap continue tap more we'll agree to the terms of service it sees the pixel watch we'll tap on the watch and it says start pairing this could take a moment so we'll give it just a moment to do that and it says allow here we'll pair says connecting to your watch this could take a moment so we'll again give it a moment to connect and get it all set up now it's connected it says learn how to switch bands we'll tap next it's showing how we can do that familiar with it already but it's pretty clever as far as the way you connect it then we'll go ahead and tap next we'll put on the watch and it says set orientation left or right where's the crown depending on how you want to wear it and I have pretty large wrists so this looks like it's not actually going to fit me with this particular band I'll need the larger band I have one from the first pixel watch but I won't be able to wear it with the standard band we'll tap continue and it says elevate your well-being with Fitbit now a part of Google so we'll tap continue we can track smarter train harder next it's just giving us more information

about all the different insights and different sensors and it says ready to connect we'll just tap not now and then we can set up cellular again I'll tap not now and it says your Google pixel watch comes with safety features that's something that we have that's a little bit newer we have updated safety features we'll tap continue and we can use Google Assistant with it as well then it says Google partners and services we can tap next and then set a lock for your watch pin or pattern so we'll set a pin once you've set a pin you can continue and it says continue on the phone so we can use our Google pay if we want to do that select apps says checking we can use recommended or just tap continue and it says there's an update so we can actually wait for this to update this could take a while and it says waiting for watch to charge so I'll have to charge this this get it updated and maybe take a closer look but basically we have updated software this year with medical ID emergency sharing and safety check we also have a new heart rate zone coaching and Pace training and also improved apps so if you want a deeper look into the pixel Watch 2 let me know in the comments below this looks pretty nice compared to what we had last year it's a little bit thinner should be more comfortable and I really do like the way they actually have these bands attached they just slide right in and they're easy to use but again if you want to see more in-depth coverage of the pixel Watch 2 let me know in the comments below I'll have to swap out the bands and more now I'm really looking forward to using the pixel 8 Pro as my main phone for a little while I've been looking forward to this I really like the pixel fold as well and with the newest processor and all of the AI capabilities with the future updates I'm looking forward to that and 7even years of updates seems pretty crazy so let me know your thoughts on that and if I can share this wallpaper I'll share it in the description if not I'll link the stock wallpaper as well if you.
